My Favorite Review...So Far

Bay Windows, New England's largest LGBT newspaper, published a great review of my book, Column Inches, this week in the "Out In Print" column. My favorite line is, "Hunter is a good writer—his work has also appeared in The Advocate, TimeOut New York, and The Cincinnati Enquirer—and readers will easily be sucked into each essay with much interest, even if they don't know local places and politics like the Pipeline or the anti-gay rights law on the docket of a Cincinnati court in 1997."

I Don't Feel Like Dancing...

Too bad the Scissor Sisters' new CD isn't coming out until September 26. The first single, "I Don't Feel Like Dancin'," from their sophomore disc Ta-Dah is so catchy I can't stop listening to it. I can't wait to get my hands on the whole CD.

With Scissor Sisters on my mind, I found a delicious layout of SS frontman Jake Shears in a recent issue of BUTT magazine. If, like me, you hadn't heard about Butt before, check out the September issue of OUT for a little history behind this super cool pocket-sized, quarterly magazine published out of The Netherlands.

Enough With The Crackberry Addiction

Maybe I'm in denial, but are that many people addicted to their "Crackberries"?

In April of last year, The Washington Post did a story on pain from thumb strain related to Blackberry use.

Sure celebrities are seen carrying them all over the place. And everyone on the subway, including myself, is pounding away on their. But is it that bad? A study done by Rutgers University has kicked up the buzz on this again.

• Yesterday's New York Post crowed "Tech Junkies, Be "Berry" Afraid."
• The story is hot on the other side of the pond too. The Daily Mail says "Blackberry Addiction Similar to Drugs."

Stop the madness.

Quotable: Miss Cho Speaks Out

In today's New York Post, Margaret Cho speaks out against Atlanta.

" August 24, 2006 -- MARGARET Cho isn't high on Atlanta these days. "Atlanta is not particularly a walking city, [but] when you do walk, you become a moving target of sorts . . . I got hit today with a classic, 'Me love you long time!' " the comic says on her Web blog. "I am often glad that I am not armed . . . even though it is the sorriest excuse of a sexual advance, and then they left without wanting to know if I had accepted the offer."

An Historic Day for the Cincinnati GLBT Community

The Cincinnati Enquirer today reports that LGBT people will soon be protected against discrimination in the city of Cincinnati, for the first time since 1992.

Here is a tidbit of celebrity wisdom to brighten your day. Gwyneth Paltrow on Nicole Richie from Harper's Bazaar:

"I just hope the whole paparazzi thing continues in the way it's been going, which is with less interest in people like me and more interest in people like Nicole Richie -- who I think is an excellent dresser, by the way," Paltrow says."She's supercute. It's really fair that the press attention goes to those who want it and court it. I think that's great."

On the Radio...Wooooah...On the Radio

This weekend I did the first radio interview to promote my book, Column Inches. On Saturday afternoon I was on Alternating Currents, a weekly gay and lesbian radio show that is broadcast on WAIF 88.3 FM from my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. In fact, if you can believe it, Alternating Currents has been around for over two decades and is the second longest running gay and lesbian public affairs show in the country.

A Reason to Fire Up the DVR on Friday Night

Friday night isn't a bit TV night for me, but this week I checked out the frist episode of the IFC's new show, The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman. Just when you thought you seen all the we-are-gonna-make-it-in-LA shows you could take, current faves including Entourage aside, in steps Laura Kightlinger of Will & Grace fame, with this quirky, dark, clever show.

The Perfect Brunch

The longer I live in Fort Greene, the less frequently I make my way over to the Cobble Hill/Carroll Gardens/Boerum Hill area. My bad. Thankfully today I was able to break out of my Fort Greene-centric world to try the brunch at Frankie's 457 on Court Street.

A very in-the-know friend had recently recommended that I try their location on the Lower East Side for dinner. I'll save that for another time. But today I had the best brunch at the Cobble Hill location. The menu is very straightforward but includes all the things you want for brunch: delicious omelettes, fluffy scrambled eggs, crusty french toast made from real French bread, tangy OJ and more.  As if the great food  and company of good friends weren't enough, the dining room is so welcoming you could easily just sit and chat all afternoon. The next time you are looking for a new brunch spot, check it out.
